ADMB Training Videos On-line

The Quantitative Fisheries Center (QFC) at Michigan State University has released a set of videos aimed at new users of AD Model Builder. The videos were developed with funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation under a contract with the ADMB foundation. Each video and associated ADMB template and data files are contained within a folder “Current_ADMB_Video_Release” accessible from the link. The entire set of videos and associated files is also accessible in a single zip file but be advised the zip file size is large. If you are interested in the videos we recommend first reading “ADMB Videos - Important Info and Annotated File List.pdf” available at the same location as the videos. The QFC url: http://qfc.fw.msu.edu/ provides a research, outreach/service and teaching program aimed at building capacity within fishery management agencies in quantitative methods. Areas of emphasis include Great Lakes fisheries and development of an online instruction program in quantitative fisheries.

ADMB Developers' Workshop Completed

The first-ever ADMB developers workshop was a resounding success. Participants were able download, modify, and upload the ADMB code from the subversion repository. Eleven new developers were authorized to commit code to the repository, and over 25 revisions to the source code were committed. Several improvements were made to the code, test versions of the code, and infrastructure. These improvements included documentation, a PRIORS_SECTION, and a Redmine website for tracking issues. The source code documentation was expanded to be more inclusive and other improvements were added to make the information more accessible to beginning users.

A second developers workshop was tentatively scheduled for February 2012 in Honolulu.

ADMB 10.1 released

Hi all,

ADMB 10.1 has been released.

This is mostly a bug fix release. Please read the README.txt file

for list of changes and procedures to build the libraries from source.

ADMB anonymous source version control available

Hi all,

The primary ADMB version control has been moved! It is now located at

http://www.admb-project.org/svn/

To checkout the trunk, use the command below to anonymously checkout a

read-only copy

svn checkout http://www.admb-project.org/svn/trunk admb-trunk-read-only

For Tortoise svn users, use the url above to checkout code.

After checking out a copy, read the README.txt in the trunk for procedures

to build ADMB.

The previous version control (shibi) is now read-only accessible. The last revision is 1006. The new primary version control was imported only with the trunk at 1006. Past versions will require accessing the previous version control.

For those that need write access, please email users@admb-project.org to

request an account. The Core ADMB developer's accounts are being transferred

to the new version control. To checkout code with write access use the command

below

svn checkout svn+ssh://www.admb-project.org/trunk admb-trunk

The configure script will need to be build using the command below

cd admb-trunk

make --directory=scripts/configure

Then

./configure

make

make install

ADMB Developers' Workshop

The first ever ADMB Developers' Workshop will be June 20 - 23, 2011 at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis in Santa Barbara, California. The goal of the workshop is to encourage potential ADMB code developers to participate in future code development and to help ensure the long-term sustainability of the ADMB software.

Space will be limited to about 25 participants, and travel funding is more severely limited. Interested prospective participants should contact developers@admb-project.org before May 15, 2011.

NOAA Fisheries is seeking a scientific programmer to work in a diverse, creative work environment populated by people with backgrounds from a variety of disciplines including statistics, quantitative ecology, applied mathematics, ecosystem modeling, and fishery science. The successful applicant will represent NOAA Fisheries in communications with the Automatic Differentiation Model Builder (ADMB) Foundation; teach courses in C++, ADMB and other programming languages; and collaborate with researchers to develop new natural resource models and translate them into efficient, well-documented code.Programming experience with C++ is essential and experience with ADMB is highly desirable. Experience in other high level languages (e.g., Visual Basic, Fortran, R) and mathematical modeling is also desirable.

The position is located in Miami, Florida. The position will require several trips per year to diverse locations within the United States, and occasionally to international venues.

The ADMB project main website at http://www.admb-project.org/ has a new and nicer eye candy look. We would like to thank Fusion Creative for designing the cool logo and the graphics. The ADMB logo just rocks. I can't wait to put it on a baseball hat. Also, we would like to thank the folks at SOEST Publications for designing and creating the layout. The website uses Plone which is a open source content management system. Finally, kudos to all the ADMB users who offered input into the redesign.
